International Ph.D. Program in Gerontology and Long-Term Care
Last Updated|2024 – 11 – 21
We aim to cultivate international professionals with expertise in research, policy advocacy, advanced management and interdisciplinary collaboration in aging health, gerontology and long-term care, in response to the global trend of aging populations and increasing demand for long-term care.
The International PhD Program in Gerontology and Long-Term Care, established in 2022, is Taiwan’s first PhD program focused on aging health, gerontology, and long-term care, specifically designed to recruit outstanding overseas professionals in the field of healthcare.
All courses are designed according to the three main axes of this PhD program: evidence-based research, gerontology and long-term care, and industry-academia innovation. All courses must be attended in person and completed within three semesters (1.5 years).
• Humanistic care and social practice
• Innovative and translational research
• International perspective and cross-disciplinary collaboration
• Leadership and management
• Ethical literacy and professional evidence-bases competence
Our students will receive comprehensive academic and life guidance from their thesis supervisor, the advisor for each year, the administrative professor, and the program director. Additionally, the Office of Global Engagement hosts numerous international student groups and cultural activities, while local students serve as study companions to help international students adapt to and integrate into the local culture and lifestyle.
With the rapid aging of the global population, the demand for advanced experts with leadership, innovative research, and industrial management skills in gerontology and long-term care has increased significantly. After graduation, students can return to their home countries to work in research and development or management positions in health and welfare government agencies and the healthcare industry. Alternatively, they can serve as professors in academic institutions or as researchers in research institutions.
