About the Program

Congratulations to all of you on your admission to the Taipei Medical University. We are delighted that you are joining our International Ph.D. Program in Gerontology and Long-Term Care and welcome you for the exciting and challenging journey ahead. It is our desire to do everything possible to make your gerontology and long-term care educational experience rewarding and successful.

From the time it commenced in 1963, the College of Nursing has been devoted to the professional education of health care practitioners and leaders. Our International Ph.D. Program in Gerontology and Long-Term Care provides graduate level health promotion, long-term care and technology assistive education designed with evidence-based practice in delivering smart and compassionate care to older adults and persons with disabilities. Students will be actively engaged in the learning processes and involved in the academic activities and clinical research that will empower them to become professional healthcare specialists.

Our doctorate program dedicates itself to preparing future healthcare leaders who will independently conduct professional research and become leaders in government/industry/university/institutes after graduation. Our faculty is committed to your success in the program and will be available to guide and support you as you progress through the Ph.D. program.

The Ph.D. Program offers multidimensional learning environments and excellent research guidance. The College of Nursing, together with six university-affiliated hospitals, provides opportunities for clinical practice and research collaboration with health care professionals from health promotion and long-term care fields and other related university-affiliated organizations

The International Ph.D. Program in Gerontology and Long-Term Care brings together multidisciplinary faculties from diverse backgrounds to pursue a shared mission that investigates gerontology and long-term care in manifold aspects.

Using health management, exercise promotion, cognitive neuroscience, palliative care, engineering technique, assistive technology, as well as informatics, our faculty and students from around the world pursue questions relating to both gerontology and long-term care.

Courses

Future Career Path

Students from International Ph.D. Program in Gerontology and Long-Term Care will learn research skills and precision health management and care strategies or technologies in the elderly and people with disabilities that can be directly transferred to research careers in gerontology and long-term care. After graduation, students may advance to research positions either in clinical (e.g., head of department), academic (e.g., researcher or professor), or institutional (e.g., person-in-charge) settings.

Teaching and Research Facilities

In addition to the common classrooms, the graduate students have access to four conference rooms, three laboratories and two graduate student study rooms for research and discussion.
